Motor learning programs: Modern and Ancient View
Muscle memory as learning skill is important for the human to maintain the voluntary functions. As per the health issues there are so many strategies developed like;
Muscle
sensory motor approach (Rood, 1940s), Movement Therapy Approach (Brunnstrom,
1950), Neuro Developmental Therapy (NDT) (Bobath, 1960-70s), Proprioceptive
Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) Approach (Knot and Voss, 1960-1970s), Motor
Relearning Program (1980s), Task Oriented Approach (1990s).
These
have improved physical and mental functions in different neurological problems
scientifically. All these techniques if available as one technique that serves
the purpose of Mind-Body connection and well being. Yoga techniques like Asana
are comparable with endurance exercises. But the maintenance of a posture by
using multiple joints with an assisting image from external world gives the
feedback to the brain and muscles. Asana, the physical postures has a name from
similar appearance from external world that serves the imagery technique. Eg;
Eagle pose as Garudasana, Tree pose as Vrikshasana, Mountain pose as
Parvatasana etc.,
Hence
the daily practice of these Asanas can develop the same potentials as that
image which was focused. Person can develop the focusing ability like Eagle,
stability like tree and Mountain. The gravitational force also changes the
physiology of organs accordingly and leads to homeostasis. Images are not just
the non-living things but also the other beings on this earth. This view can
bring a lot of change in the evolution of neurobiology especially in the
disease conditions.
Conclusion: Yoga
Asana improve the quality of living even in normal individual by mind-body
connections.
